Hall of Fame – Mary DiGiovanni

Mary DiGiovanni

Mary was introduced to the sport by her co- workers back in late ’70s while working as a pipefitter at the Byron Nuclear Power Plant in Illinois.  She eased into the sport by working as a referee for 6 years, working at 5 consecutive World Shoots.  She was gently pushed into her first registered targets because of a rule at the World Shoot.  Back in those days, a World Shoot referee was required to have shot 300 registered targets during the year.

In 1987, Mary met Earl Barroso, fell in love and moved to Houston, where she gave up refereeing in order to start shooting seriously with Earl.

Mary has been named to 13 All State Teams, 12 NSSA All-American Teams,  won 12 Ladies State Shoot titles, and currently holds the Ladies record for the 4×50 at 199×200.  She has won multiple Ladies World Shoot titles including the Doubles Championship in 2005 with a perfect 100.

High on her list of achievements is winning the shoot-offs for the Open HOA Championship and the Open .410 Championship at the 1998  Frank Laudano Shoot in Beaumont.  She broke 100 in the .410 to tie for the HOA with Rocky Goodman and  Phil Murray with 398s.

Her next goal is “to look as good as Ellen Nelms when I hit the Veteran concurrent”.
