Cliff Moller - Buck Stark Service Award
Cliff Moller was asked to come and help Jess Briley with his fledgling business, improving shotgun performance, as its second employee; Jess being the first. Cliff was Jess’ new son-in-law and having just graduated from UT with a degree in psychology, of course Cliff accepted! Jess and Cliff were fantastic partners over the years; when two people work together, many wonderful things can be accomplished.
The first few years were fun and very stressful to say the least. The pair invented skeet tubes and thin-walled choke tubes but bringing these revolutionary products successfully to market was a considerable undertaking. Responsibilities were to shoot, to invent, to sell, to sweep, to teach, to learn and of course the milling, honing and the lathe work. They rapidly progressed and moved into a commercial building and continued to expand. What these two men did with a piece of metal was ingenious and innovative and they are to be commended … but let’s take a closer look at these two giants of men.
Collectively Jess Briley and Cliff Moller have done more for our game than anyone in the history of skeet. Let me repeat that. Collectively Jess Briley and Cliff Moller have done more for our game than anyone in the history of skeet. For many many years they have helped gun clubs and other organizations with kind and generous contributions of all types. They have donated countless hours, dollars, and product to the game of skeet. Cliff with his brilliant mind, has suggested many innovative ideas to the game in which many have been implemented with great success. He brings back the fun in skeet. Their contributions go a lot further than skeet. Every shotgun discipline today has experienced the same generosity from Jess and Cliff. Along with TSSA, the NSSA has been the recipient of their generosity as well. There are not enough kind words to express the THANK YOU that we owe to these two giants of men.
Cliff has helped many gun clubs across the state, and nation, both overtly and covertly. He has helped shotgun programs flourish by leading efforts to make them successful. Cliff is not afraid to pick up the phone and solicit help from those that he believes can further his cause…and he gets results. The game of skeet and the shotgun sports would not be nearly as successful without the efforts of Cliff Moller to carry the flag and to preach what wonderful opportunities and fun the shotgun sports present.
