Allen Cline
Allen Cline has been enshrined into the Texas Skeet Shooters Hall of Fame for his contributions to the game of skeet. Allen’s induction is specifically for Distinguished Service, a category recognized by the prestigious Buck Stark Service Award.
Allen grew up in a ‘skeet family’ and shot his first round of skeet in the early 1970’s. Allen is a Life Member of both the TSSA and NSSA. He has been a member of the NSSA for over forty years. In that time, he has amassed over 155,000 registered targets.
Allen has been a Chief Referee for the TSSA for over twenty (20) years. His career as a skeet referee started in Hawaii. After moving to Texas his shooting career, and his refereeing career took off. In 2004 he was asked to be chief referee for Texas and chiefed all major shoots in Texas, including the Zone, US Open, Dallas, Waco, and Tyler. He worked shoots in Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, Iowa, Illinois and pulled around 2 million targets. Over the past twenty (20) years he staffed and chiefed over 400 tournaments.
As a Chief Referee, Allen recruited and trained more than fifty (50) certified referees. Additionally, Allen has held skeet clinics for more than two hundred (200) potential referees.
Allen was the President of Fort Worth Trap and Skeet for a period of four (4) years, starting in 1990. He is a fixture at the club and is always willing to lend a hand and help coach a shooter that is willing to accept his instruction.
Many competitors take the efficiency of our shootoffs for granted. Allen has been instrumental in designing and refining the behind-the-scenes procedures that allow our shootoffs to run smoothly. He has built on the work done previously by his close friend and mentor, Al Topham.
Allen has been a keen competitor in our sport when he is not drawn away from competition by his obligation to give back to the sport. Some notable achievements for Allen are as follows:
- One (1) – Referee of the Year Buckle (2023)
- Five (5) – TSSA Al Topham Awards (1999, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2017)
